Nasa Presidential candidate Raila Odinga has sensationally
claimed that the government has deployed 42 police and military officers for
‘special duties’ aimed at rigging the election.
Mr Odinga on Thursday claimed the 42 have been deployed to
serve as Polling Clerks, Returning Officers and Jubilee party agents.
The opposition leader told a news conference at his office
in Capitol Hill that the decision to deploy the officers to meddle with
elections was made at a meeting held on June 23 where the officers work IDs
were withdrwan and given the normal IDs.
He claimed that the opposition has evidence of the
deployment and will provide it.
“I’m not just making wild allegations, some of the officers
have talked to us” claimed Mr Odinga.
The officers, according to Mr Odinga, are drwan from Kenya
Defence Forces, General Service Unit (GSU), National Intelligence Service (NIS)
and the Kenya Police Dog unit.
“We are poised for a win (in the election) and the military
must not be used to subvert the will of the people,” Mr Odinga said.
Mr Odinga shared with journalists a memo that contained 42
names of officers allegedly deployed for the special assignment. The memo was
addressed to regional co-ordinators and is signed by one John Kamau, who is
designated as deputy inspector general of Kenya Police Service.
