Gathoni Wa Muchomba has has
it rough this last couple of days.
This comes after a TV interview with NTV where she agitated for
MP’s pay to be increased. What she had not bet on was the reaction of Kenyans
to this.
“I sincerely apologize
to my party patron and President, the people of Kiambu, and Kenyans at large,”
Gathoni, a former radio presenter said on her social media.
She released a press
statement as well.
It reads: “Good afternoon my fellow
Kiambu constituents. I would like to take this opportunity to thank you all for
supporting and voting for me overwhelmingly as your woman rep in the just
concluded general elections. I wish to regrettably focus on my yesterday
comments made during a TV interview where I discussed matters on salary for
members of parliament. In regards to the recommendations given by the independent
commission on salaries and remuneration commission, where my words and comments
have created anger, range and protests, I remorsefully apologize for the pain I
may have
caused. John Burroughs once said, “A man can fail many times, but he isn’t a failure in life until he begins to blame somebody else”.”

She Continued, “After Deep Soul Searching And As A God
Fearing Servant-Leader, I Realize That I Have Let Down The People Who Put Their
Faith In Me, And I Will Do Everything In My Power To Learn From This
Regrettable Mistake And To Gain Back Their Trust. Therefore, I Withdraw The
Comment And Commit To Continue To Serve You Diligently And Abide By The Src
Salary Scales Without Questioning.
I Will Not Fail Your Trust On Me And My Party.

On the same note, please
ignore the fake twitter and Facebook accounts circulating with my name and
hurling insults. As a wife and a mother I sincerely don’t harbor and condone
such comments. I request humbly those propagating those fake accounts to pull them
down and take me as their humble sister.
I would also like to offer my sincerest apologies to my party patron and President, my fellow Kiambu
constituents, my staff, my family, and especially to all Kenyans who were offended by my comments.
God bless you abundantly my great people of Kiambu!”
