Former Bomet Governor Isaac Ruto on Friday made an elaborate
speech in his mothe-tongue explaining why he finally ditched NASA, where he was
the fifth principal.
Speaking at Kapkatet Grounds where President Uhuru
Kenyatta was holding his campaign, Rutto divulged that he realized that
his people had abandoned him after pledging allegiance to NASA leader Raila
Odinga.
Addressing the crowd, The Chama cha Mashinani leader
said: “I told you to come with me but you left me…I thought you were
following me but when I looked behind me I realized that you had
disappeared”.
Rutto disclosed that after realizing that he was just going
with a few people he decided to go back and search for those who had left him
in the cold.
He further noted that President Kenyatta and his Deputy
William Ruto came looking for him and urged him to support their bid.
“So these brothers came and looked for me… and I think we
should work together,” he said.
Rutto’s drastic move comes as a shock to many as last week
he assured the country that he was in NASA to stay.
"I am in NASA to stay. I have decided to maintain a low
profile to allow Bomet people to settle. I know the election was marred with a
lot of irregularities since government machinery were used to intimidate my
supporters.
"I am Chama Cha Mashinani (CCM) party leader. How can I
defect to another political outfit. Jubilee has not approached me but I have
seen things blown out of proportion on social media," Rutto earlier
said during an interview.
Mr. Kenyatta and DP Ruto welcomed him to the Jubilee party
highlighting that they were ready to work with him.
On his side, the CCM Chair noted that he would rally his
people to vote for the Head of State.
He was trounced in the just concluded General Election
by Joyce Laboso, who was vying on a Jubilee ticket.
