The country was on Monday shocked by the abrupt death
of Eldoret Catholic Diocese Bishop Cornelius Korir.
His death occurred at at time of political uncertainty, and
he was seen as one of the few sober and impartial men of God always preaching
peace.
It has now emerged that a postmortem on the body will not be
conducted, as the cause of his death is more or less clear.
According to Phillip Anyollo, chairman of the
Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops, the late Bishop Korir suffered
from diabetes and high blood pressure. The two ailments were detected
late, and doctors had already started treating him to manage complications.
“The health problems were not detected early. He spent
several days in bed.”
On the morning he passed on, Bishop Korir was supposed to be
transferred to Karen Hospital in Nairobi for specialized treatment. A flight
had already been booked, but priests who had gone to help him prepare found him
dead.
His body is lying at Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital
farewell home.
The late Bishop Korir will be laid to rest next Saturday,
with the President and his deputy expected to attend.
