The fate of the National Super Alliance (NASA) is hanging in the balance after Musalia Mudavadi’s team made a new announcement that is likely to cast a cloud over the future of the coalition.
Amani National Congress (ANC) has declared it will front Musalia Mudavadi as their presidential candidate during the 2022 General Election.
This comes after Wiper leaders led by Governor Kivutha Kibwana also launched KalanzoMusyoka's bid for presidency come 2022.
The act by both ANC and Wiper leaders has caused confusion among NASA supporters who have been left to wonder on the coalition's unity.
According to ANC MPs and party officials they are expected to hold a retreat to discuss and review their relations with NASA next weekend.
ANC secretary general, Barrack Muluka made the revelations yesterday and said the Western region will rally behind Mudavadi in 2022 even as he accused “outside forces” of trying to divide them.
He said the people will remain united and intact and disputed claims of divisions in the party. Muluka spoke after holding a closed-door meeting with party officials at a Busia hotel.
“ANC party is not divided as some people have been claiming lately…the party is intact,” he said.
This came against the backdrop of the party and Wiper Democratic Movement accusing their ODM partner of sidelining them while filling parliamentary leadership positions. The two parties have complained of being shortchanged by ODM and even rejected the list presented to Parliament.
