The Nation Media Group (NMG) on Monday night explained why it will not take part in criminal investigations launched by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) against National Super Alliance (NASA) chief strategist David Ndii.
The DCI summoned popular NTV news anchor Larry Madowo following an interview he had with Mr. Ndii, who was earlier arrested by flying squad officers while on holiday in Diani.
The well-known Economist was charged with incitement to violence and the TV interview he had with Madowo was mentioned as one of the platforms he made the unlawful remarks.
However, NMG stated that it will not take part in the investigations noting that it was against the journalistic code of conduct to do so.
According to the media house, Mr. Madowo will also not record any statement with the police highlighting that it was imperative for journalists to protect their sources.
“The DCI’s request is unethical as journalists cannot testify against news sources,” NMG said.
Ndii has been on the front line calling for secession following the August 8 General Election which was marred with a lot of illegalities and irregularities.
He has also been part of the team by NASA planning to swear in NASA leader Raila Odinga as the People’s President on December 12, 2017.
The Opposition has insisted that the President Uhuru Kenyatta-led Government is illegitimate and would not recognize it.
