Kirinyaga Deputy Governor Peter Ndambiri has maintained that he is focused on his family and his electorates despite the shameful video in which he was filmed naked with a woman, in a compromising situation.
In a statement read to the press on Wednesday, the Deputy Governor equally apologized to his wife and children and people of Kirinyaga for the nasty video which he blamed on extortionists.
“I would like to take this opportunity to get ahead of the video and story in circulation. Right now what matters most is my family and my people of Kirinyaga who look up to me for guidance. To them, I say sorry,” he said.
Mr Ndambiri on Wednesday evening said that he was a victim of an extortion gang after a video of the politician, that has since gone viral, emerged on Tuesday evening.
In the video, Mr Ndambiri was seen being assaulted by unknown people alongside a woman who claimed she was married.
However, Mr Ndambiri said he was set up by a gang whose aim was to extort him, which he claimed has been targeting politicians.
“There are gangsters targeting politicians for purposes of extortion. I was set up by the gang took me through an agonising moment. And for the thugs, I say, your days are numbered,” he said.
He said that the gang would not deter his vision to serve his family and the people of Kirinyaga County.
However, it is still unclear when or the location where the video was filmed. Several leaders had condemned the video and called for the arrest of those who recorded it.
Kenya Film Classification Board Chief Executive Ezekiel Mutua said the recording was an invasion of privacy.
