Kirinyaga Deputy Governor Peter Ndambiri has spoken for the
first time since an explicit video capturing him naked together with an
unidentified woman went viral on social media.
Speaking on Wednesday, a day after the recording emerged,
Mr. Ndambiri denied that he was having an extramarital affair, saying the
incident was a set-up by fraudsters who wanted to extort money from him.
“There is a group of gangsters targeting politicians and
individuals they think have money in this country. The purpose of these
gangsters is extortion and I am such a victim,” said Ndambiri.
“I was set up by crooks who took me through a very agonizing
moment and right now what matters to me most is about my family and the people
of Kirinyaga who look unto me for guidance and leadership.”
Mr. Ndambiri claims the incident occurred last weekend in
Thika town where he was accosted by fraudsters who forced him into a room with
the said woman.
According to the DG, the said conmen then forced them to
strip naked as they recorded the incident to show that he had been busted
sleeping with a married woman.
“This is an episode that has brought a lot of shame but it
has happened when people fall victims to gangsters. Anyone can fall victim and
find themselves in a situation for purposes of extortion. I thank God that I am
alive because these gangsters would have either killed me if I failed to comply
to their demands. For me to save my neck I had to comply,” stated Mr. Ndambiri.
He was speaking at the Thika Police Station where he says he
reported the matter last weekend and had gone to make a follow up today.
The video shows Anne Waiguru’s deputy governor in the nude
while being assaulted by several men, for sleeping with a woman who is
allegedly married.
The incident caused a social media storm with a section of
online users calling for Mr. Ndambiri’s resignation.
At the ongoing 5th Devolution Conference, the matter was met
with humour by top leaders including Devolution Cabinet Secretary Eugene
Wamalwa who hinted at the video.
“Oparanya told me this morning that indeed his 24-hour
economy is working and Governor Waiguru can attest to it. And may I say to all
the delegates welcome to ingo and filanga free (welcome to
Luhya land and feel free) in all aspects,” said Wamalwa.
