South Africa President Jacob Zuma has announced his
resignation from the Presidency with immediate effect.
”I have come to the decision to resign as president of the
republic with immediate effect;” Zuma announced from Union Building.
Zuma was under pressure from the public and his African
National Congress ANC Party to resign from office just like former President
Thabo Mbeki.
The ANC caucus met on Wednesday morning on the outcomes of a
meeting of the party’s national executive committee (NEC). ANC
treasurer-general Paul Mashatile told the media afterward that they had given
Zuma until Wednesday to resign.
If not,the ANC would proceed with a motion of no
confidence against him on Thursday to legally force him to resign ccording to
the Constitution, he said.
Cyril Ramaphosa had replaced Jacob Zuma as the President of
ANC after elections in December 2017.
